Sustainable palm oil

The Guardian invited experts from Greenpeace International, the Environmental Investigation Agency, WWF and RSPO to debate one of the world's most popular commodities: palm oil. What can companies do? Who's not pulling their weight? How does the consumer fit into this and what does sustainable palm oil mean anyway?

The panelists debated these questions and many more and it was job to design an animated story to the funding from the debate more understandable and interesting to follow.

Working in a team consisting of an Editor and a Producer, we highlighted the most interesting parts of the edited recording and which would be the best way to visualise them. We then got Damn Fine Media involved - a company who specialise in research and producing video content. Leading the look-and-feel, I felt the imagery was of secondary importance to the debate content so it didn't need to 'shout' visually.

Working with DFM, we decided on a lovely hand-drawn style and I got to work with the art direction. Using a multi-grey canvas, I then went with a simple colour scheme of red, gold and green. We had a lot of work getting the audio to work exactly with the visuals and a lot of tweaking but the final version was very strong..
